How To Deal With A Picky Eater On A Family Vacation

Picky Eater on Vacation

Having a picky eater in your family is such a difficult thing especially while you are travelling. Just imagine how much of a hassle it would be if the place you are visiting serves authentic cuisines that, you and your family are not familiar with. If this happens, here are some things that you can do on how to deal with a picky eater on a family vacation.

Bring his/her favorite food

Bringing his or her favorite with you is perhaps one of the things that you can do. This way, if he or she does not like the food being served, there is still something that you can offer. For instance, if the family member loves peanut butter sandwich, prepare them ahead of time before leaving the hotel, this way, you will never have to prepare them in the restaurant.

Order food that you can finish

When ordering food, make sure that you could finish everything. This way, you will not have leftovers. If your kid wants to order something that you are not sure if he will eat them, tell him that you two will share it. This way, you will not spend so much money on something that he does not want to eat it in the end.

Serving small portions will also be great so that there is a variety. At least, you and your family can all of it and enjoy. If you think that you need to more, then you can order again.

Ask for special treatment

Some restaurants can give you special treatment by preparing simple and healthy dishes. You can ask the chef to prepare special dish for your child. For instance, if your child loves to eat fried chicken, ask the chef to prepare a salad that is somewhat sweet with bits of fried chicken. This way, you are giving a new taste to your child’s palette.

Who knows, this will become his new favorite and a great introduction to eating healthy foods.

Have a deal

Kids love rewards. All you need to do is to have a bargaining agreement. For instance, ask your child to eat what is prepared for him and in return, you can give him something that he wants; for instance, a toy that he really likes. Make sure though that you are true to your deal, this way, he will honor it as well.

Never buy anything yet unless he has done whatever you wanted. Of course, do not do this often because he will always do this to you.

Create a personal menu

Create a menu that will leave him with no choice but eat what is there. Show him a list of vegetables, fruits and other healthy foods. Tell him that you could not get anything else for him. Since he is hungry, he will end up eating what you have to offer.

These are the things that you can do on how to deal with a picky eater on a family vacation. Always make sure that your family eats well and will have a great time during your vacation.
